Good stuff here, Jude!

I notice the same rhetoric, and the same forgetting-one's-opponent-is-a-human-being, in Town Meetings here in Vermont. We're all face-to-face, and many of the older crowd (some of the younger, too!) don't have computers, don't even have email addresses, much less Facebook pages. Yet people talk the same way, dehumanizing others, wanting to strip rights and privileges of others away even though those others are right there next to them. I think it's more about ideology than social media - once ideological fervor takes over, it becomes an us-versus-them struggle. (Though I'm sure a lot of these folks have cable . . . hmm . . . It might be interesting to do a poll around media and politics at Town Meeting!)

I am so using this wonderful prayer during our worship service next week, Jan 20th, which will be followed by our reading of the "Laramie Project, Ten Years Later," We are offering this Reader's Theatre at our church on 2 Sundays right after church. We have been collaborating with a local high school which is putting on the production of the original over 6 nights. The prayer will be perfect as we hope to have many students and their families at church, UU and non-UU. Thanks.

Thank you Inga for lifting up her name. The oversight is mine. I looked at lists of names from ABC and NPR and she wasn't included. I was still going off the mistaken early reports that she was one of the teachers in the school and thought she was included. Thank you for honoring her too.
